Make a glow gel

In today’s blog, I’ll be showing you how to make a super-light moisturising Glow gel that is suitable for daytime use or even at night. I wanted to bring you a simple but pleasing product that can be made in 30 minutes and can make a wonderful gift for your mum this Mother’s day.

The gel is based on Sapogel Q, which will gel up your oils. This allows you to create a very interesting lipid-based product that has so many possibilities. It is a palm-free, natural ingredient that is super easy to use and can create gel-like products.

I chose light lipids to go in the formula but the best part is that as long as you keep the Sapogel: lipid ratio, you can use any oils of your choice. I wanted a thicker gel so I used 15% Sapogel. You can add a bit of glycerine, but it would lower the viscosity (meaning it would be runnier). Sapogel already has quite a high amount of glycerine, so I felt no need to add more. The same would happen if you increased the amount of Sapogel to 20%-25%. It is your choice. That could work if you wanted to package it in a pump bottle for example.

I have added a tiny amount of mica at the end of the formula to give a subtle glow to the product and then to the skin when applied.

Micas will not give colour, well, not as oxides would but that’s what we want. I used Satin Bronze mica but I think it could work well with others such as peach colour mica. When this oil gel is applied, it moisturises the skin and will give a very lovely glow. Because I worked with light oils, this product can be used alone or under make-up. If you want, you can choose different oils to make it feel more nourishing.

Ever since writing the Pressed Serum course, I am in love with oils from Makers Ingredients. If you want to source excellent quality, unusual oils, check out their site.

Make your mama happy with this simple yet aesthetically super pleasing oily gel.
