Make a caffeine & green tea eye gel

For 12 days we will be publishing one formula a day that you can copy or personalise this holiday season.

DAY 9

Today I have a very much requested formula for you: caffeine eye gel with green tea extract.

Caffeine has been a well-known ingredient in various skincare products such as eye creams/ gels, in body skincare for cellulite or even in shampoos and hair tonics against hair loss. Caffeine is an alkaloid which naturally occurs in various plants such as the tea plant or guarana. It is a superb antioxidant, a vasoconstrictor (narrows blood vessels) which can lead to a less puffy eye area.

This formula contains some good stuff: caffeine, panthenol and green tea extract. It is a low viscosity gel that could work in roll-on bottles or in dropper bottles. ( my apologies, my roll on bottles are blue and you wouldn’t have seen much of the product so I chose not to use them for the photos).

PERSONALISATION

  • For thicker gel increase the gum a bit.

  • If you like, you can add some high molecular weight hyaluronic acid. This will create a gel and helps with hydration.

  • Instead of water, use some hydrosols. They would give a nice scent too. Choose cornflower, chamomile or aloe but others would work, too.

  • Most skincare products for the eye area has a pH close to 6. For the preservative I used, this is not ideal. If you choose a different broad spectrum preservative that can handle a higher pH, try to adjust it close to 6 if you can.

HOW TO USE

Apply a few drops around the eye area and follow it with your favourite cream or moisturiser.
