Formulate a bakuchiol gel lotion

A natural, light gel cream/ gel lotion formula with Siligel, Bakuchiol and Astaxanthin.

Today I will be showing you a lovely, light gel lotion formula. It is similar to a gel cream ( or cream gel) but not so thick, so perfect for an airless dispenser.

Gel lotions/ gel creams are typically lighter than other lotion formulas. It is not just about the lipid content but the lipids choice, also.

The hero ingredient here is bakuchiol, but you cannot ignore the astaxanthin's (a fantastic antioxidant) stunning orange-peach colour.

INGREDIENTS

Bakuchiol is an isolate from the Babchi/ Bakuchi seed. Please do not confuse it with the oil, though. According to a study from 2018, there is no mentionable difference between bakuchiol and retinol in terms of their effect on hyperpigmentation and their anti-ageing properties. Moreover, it’s actually said to be more well-tolerated than retinol, making it an excellent choice for sensitive skin. Use bakuchiol in products designed to fight wrinkles, photodamaged skin, and pigmentation. Use up to 1% bakuchiol in formulations. It’s an oil-soluble ingredient, but if you add it to emulsions, do not heat it. It should be added in the cool-down phase. The pH of such products should be under 6.5.

The gel lotion is created using Siligel by Lucas Meyer. I chose this because it is a cold-process thickener that is more economical and easier to use. If you cannot get hold of Siligel, you can also try working with Ecogel, but you will then need to change the process slightly since that requires heat. Siligel can handle up to 10% oils, and that is perfect for a gel lotion which should be light and fast-absorbing.

I hope you will like this formula, and please let me know in the group if you make it.
